Our custom made Camelbak beavertail in action- pic by GP of CBK Motocross– location: inside the jungle of Pahang

Some months back, we made several custom made Camelbak beavertails for a few motocross enthusiasts in Malaysia. The beavertails were made with 500D cordura fabric and equipped with ITW components. The design template was rather similar across all pieces except for minor modifications like zippered slots and hidden pockets on some. GP from CBK Motocross contacted us recently with some favorable feedback and great photos of what his beavertail setup has been up to. Here are some pictures from his team’s motocross adventures in Malaysia.

GP commutes by bike on a daily basis and his Camelbak setup goes with him everywhere. Jungle camping, motocross or even on extended road trips, he puts every piece of his gear through real use. Each time he gets us to custom make pack for him, we know it will be a solid project because he is the sort of chap that thinks his ideas and designs thoroughly.

Beside the Camelbak beavertail, we have also in the past worked with GP and CBK Motocross team on other beavertail like carry system. Below is a custom made system we made for carrying spare motocross spare tyres.

GP was happy to report that the Camelbak beavertail we made for him is still holding up to his daily use and abuse. He did point out several areas that could do with some improvements, all of which we find to be of valid and definitely taking on board for future orders. Having said so, we are currently running low on some colors of 500D and will be getting new orders in soon. We apologize to some of our customers who are patiently waiting for their custom made beavertail to be completed.

With stock of material and components stacked to the roof, its timely to move half our sewing workshop to a new location with larger space

We are moving half our sewing workshop to a new location in Ara  Damansara, Selangor. A few recent addition of industrial sewing machine and more new stock has really choked up our existing workshop. The new place would be focusing on pack repairs with bigger production capability while all prototypes and custom order items will remain in the old workshop. Here’s some updates of our move and details on whats happening.

We had a tough time with the machines. The one of the right weights at least 60kg! What do we use the drill press for? That is something new in the pipeline

Another reason for our move is due to our commitment to establish a backpack and general outdoor gear repair & modification service provider here in Malaysia. We offer customers more options in terms of fabric material, components and customization they can do on their gear. No more throwing out old packs or sending them away to manufacturer (months at times) for repairs. Do it locally in shorter amount of time. We have been been getting jobs from individuals as well as groups to repair gear like torn backpacks, tents, pouches and even gaiters. Our service prolongs the life of your gear, helps reduce waste and saves you money!

MSM Stealth Compact Pouch sewn by Tactical Tailor. Patch is by MSM

Recently, we had a customer who brought in his Mil-Spec Monkey (MSM) Stealth Compact Pouch hoping to make some modifications. The MSM Pouch is made in the USA by Tactical Tailor and this is not the first time we have customers using the products. MSM products are awesome and would make good EDC items as well as organizational tools. Needless to say, their well known morale patches adds flare and character too. With the owner’s permission, we decided to take some pictures for the blog.

In our years of needle working packs, pouches and doing repairs in Malaysia, Tactical Tailor’s (the American company that sew most MSM pouches) detail to their products is really hard to beat. Take a close look at the number of pockets, slots, molle straps and other components of the pouch, one will realize that a lot of thought and hours have been invested into the design and execution of this pouch.

The main compartment opens like a clam shell but only half way. Elastic bands, slots inside makes organization a breeze

This customer came to us because he wanted us to add size to the pouch…which unfortunately is not a practical endeavor. He brought along several pieces of his EDC tools which he wanted to fit into the pouch but there is just no way they can all fit in. Even his torch light (a Fenix running on two AA batteries) will not fit without pocking into the zippers of the pouch. There are other items including some sharps the customer had with him (which we think is best not to show pics). While we can disassemble the pouch and add cordura material to add on size but the amount of man hours is probably not worth while.

Being a ‘compact’ pouch, size is definitelly a serious consideration if you have bulky EDC items. In this case, even the Fenix torch does not fit

The customer understood the situation well and agreed instead to custom make a pouch as his new EDC. He really liked the samples we had to show him (looks very similar to the ones we posted here) and immediately went on to choose the color and design he wanted. We reckon it will take us a couple of weeks to get the pouch made.
