Some months back, we made several custom made Camelbak beavertails for a few motocross enthusiasts in Malaysia. The beavertails were made with 500D cordura fabric and equipped with ITW components. The design template was rather similar across all pieces except for minor modifications like zippered slots and hidden pockets on some. GP from CBK Motocross contacted us recently with some favorable feedback and great photos of what his beavertail setup has been up to. Here are some pictures from his team’s motocross adventures in Malaysia.

GP commutes by bike on a daily basis and his Camelbak setup goes with him everywhere. Jungle camping, motocross or even on extended road trips, he puts every piece of his gear through real use. Each time he gets us to custom make pack for him, we know it will be a solid project because he is the sort of chap that thinks his ideas and designs thoroughly.

Beside the Camelbak beavertail, we have also in the past worked with GP and CBK Motocross team on other beavertail like carry system. Below is a custom made system we made for carrying spare motocross spare tyres.

GP was happy to report that the Camelbak beavertail we made for him is still holding up to his daily use and abuse. He did point out several areas that could do with some improvements, all of which we find to be of valid and definitely taking on board for future orders. Having said so, we are currently running low on some colors of 500D and will be getting new orders in soon. We apologize to some of our customers who are patiently waiting for their custom made beavertail to be completed.

A project completed several months ago started with this rough sketch over coffee

Some months back, we completed several sets of custom built tactical harness for a client. We now have the go ahead to publish pictures of the items. These are hand built in our very own workshop based on drawings from the customer. Finalizing the design took several weeks but that was expected as we are building from ground up. Once we are on the same page with the client, the execution too just under 4 days.

This custom built tactical harness compliments packs and pouches that were built together. As per our customer’s strict requirement, all components used are military spec and would be molle compatible.

Almost all components used on this custom built tactical harness were imported into Malaysia by Garrison Packs. We only use the best materials, as per our customer’s request. Cheap low quality components is not an option for gear that is built to last. All the design, cut and assembly process was done in our workshop.

The past few months have been very exciting for us. We have been working with customers on custom designed, cut and proudly Malaysian made EDC wallets and pouches. This is an area we have been focusing for a while… providing customized solutions to individual as well as industrial application EDC wallets and pouches. Our customers come up with the design they like and we make it to suit their needs. Here are a few examples.

EDC wallets and pouches are gaining popularity in Malaysia. Rather than carrying your important daily items separately in pockets and bags, a wallet and pouch can have everything organized in a singe unit. The challenge with readily available EDC wallets and pouches is that they limit your options in terms of size, color and more importantly the organizational capability.

We are also making custom made pouches for companies. Nestle Malaysia approached us to replicate (with material enhancements) pouches for their electronic device. The pouches will be used by their product representatives on a daily basis, 7 days a week. An industrial application well suited for super tough military spec fabrics and components we use on almost all of our products.

Some months back, we made a prototype day pack for a My Store Room. Since then, we have been coping with a lot of small custom jobs and a few orders for this prototype day pack as well. . Its been a challenging few months for us as we had to turn down many jobs, especially the ones from overseas 🙁

The best part of our job is being able to incorporate a customer’s preference into the entire pack. Customers can choose from available colors, type of fabric, buckles and components right up to additional pockets, straps and other features. This particular pack was made  roll top closure, with additional draining holes and molle straps.

Our first complete custom made EDC pack is now field testing in New Zealand

We finally got news that our custom made EDC pack has arrived in New Zealand and is currently in use. The pack was a complete design by the ‘prepping & hoarding’ folks of My Store Room (MSR). It is made mainly of 500 Denier Cordura with a combination of non military components as per requested. It took us several weeks of design and re-designing before taking it to the workshop. Putting the pack together was a rush job but we manage to pull it off. We like the design very much, we decided that perhaps this could be our first prototype of a Garrison Pack EDC pack.

There were a lot of tinkering and re-do on this project but it was all worth it

There were several criteria MSR wanted to focus on with this pack. Firstly it must not be overly tactical looking. To achieve this, we make do without any molle webbing on it. We also went with a combination of black (webbing and mesh) and coyote color so that the pack is not ‘camouflage’. MSR also wanted us to try out a spacer mesh for the back panel and the shoulder straps. Samples were brought in specifically for this purpose.

There were also buckles that were ordered for this pack. Unfortunately, they never arrived on time as the pack had to be collected for hand carry to NZ. We had to improvise a two direction pull buckle system for this pack and had it ready for pick up.

One of the features we love about this custom made EDC pack is the over-sized side pockets. Some may notice that the side pockets on this particular pack looks very similar to some of Kifaru’s packs. They can swallow massive amount of gear. The only downside we think is there is no cover/ lid over it and MSR insisted not to have grommet holes at the bottom either. This would spell trouble when it rains we reckon.

With this first prototype of a full custom made EDC pack for MSR, we are confident that we are mush closer to our very own Garrison Packs EDC pack. There are several ideas and options we want to make available for our EDC pack and we are currently working on another sample unit.  On top of that, we are , we are also looking into giving customers the options of ( besides the usual fabric color, accessories etc):

• With or without molle webbing.
• Front detachable admin/ grab it pouch.
• Front detachable helmet/ jacket pouch.
• Internal organisation.
• Pack height- to be made to specific height of the user.
• With or without Velcro panels.
• Internal hydration sleeve.

A custom made tool bag to help you get organised

Here is another project that we recently completed. A custom made ‘tough as nail’ tool bag that swallows a heap of tools yet have everything organised each time you open it up. Having to sort through different bags and pouches for his tools, this customer decided he wanted a bag that keeps his work tools the way he prefers them and yet tough enough to withstand his daily use and abuse. With the right machines, materials and some inputs from him, we put together a bag that fits the bill.

We finally made our first version of a tactical harness for dog. It was made to suit a large dog which belong to a customer who wanted to bring his canine buddy out with him when he goes into the jungle. He wanted the harness built strong with several attachment options. After a few visits, we finally got the design on the way in out sewing department.

Like most prototype custom made nylon products we produce, we take extra time in designing and some modelling to make sure that we achieve our customer’s requirements. Using all military spec material (mesh, webbing, fabric, buckles, thread!), our first step was to have the layout done on paper. After that, everything else just sort of fall into place.

We used all ITW military spec buckles and components on this canine harness. Besides being strong and lasting, they are also genuinely more comfortable to use. The military grade mesh used allows for better ventilation for the dog and at the same time strong for its purpose. Grab/ haul points were located as requested by the customer.

Our customer seems very pleased with our version of a tactical dog harness. He promised to give us some feedback later on. But in the mean time, we would need to start some design work on some small pouches for the harness itself.

A customized knife carrier bag in progress

Here are some pictures of another ‘one of the kind’ customized knife bag we completed for a customer. Our good customer did not fancy the idea of having all his knives stored in a box scratching up each other. He wanted a bag that he could manage and display his beloved collection of knives. We sat down over coffee and finalized his knife bag and a week later, the project is completed.

We used all mil-spec and high quality materials on this project. The elastic bands were an important aspect of the bag to ensure that knives and other items kept in the bag are held in place well. We incorporated a grab handle to make carrying easy as well as inner ‘curtain’ separator to stop the knives from hitting and scratching each other when the clam-shell is closed.

Over 200 units to be completed for our customer

We have been very busy during that last few weeks on a large order for custom made pouch. The pouch is to keep secure a tool for the automotive industry and we committed to deliver over 200 units of them in a short period of time. It has taken up most of our time and resources considering the size and amount of detail required by the customer. Everything when smooth until we realize we did not have enough cordura material!

Our order for additional cordura material from the USA was rushed in for this project. By the time it arrived, we had to put aside all other jobs to finish it. Thankfully, we have our new machines (in some months back) and all hands were on deck to work on this job. The workshop became our sleeping room for a few nights!

We were very relieved that we manage to complete and deliver this special made pouch to our customer on time. We had a close call with the cordura fabric but thankfully everything worked out smooth. With this pouches packed and shipped, we will be taking a well deserved (short) break before getting back to our list of pending jobs. A good week nevertheless!

Milspec material all around

Here is another custom made set of pouches for a folding saw and a army canteen bottle we completed. Work has slowed down a bit and we thought we would share some pictures of this project. One of the rare opportunities where we get to slow down, take the camera out and take some pictures. 1000 denier black Cordura in matching milspec components and molle compatible.

Our customer wanted the pouch for the water canteen to fit the bottle and the stainless steel mug. The design is very similar to the US Army issue ones but with some minor modifications. It is possible to get the US Army ones for cheap but rarely (or perhaps never) in black.

We decided to have the buckle of the folding saw pouch slide underneath a molle webbing to keep the buckle safe from accidental un-clip. It sits snugly under the webbing without hindering a one hand operation. These are some simple features that we discover along the way. Any small changes that helps make a product better can go a long way.
